Traveling the stairs will now be safer.

After a report of the stair treads peeling up in the West Bend High School’s West Tower staircase, the high school facility staff promptly started fixing the problem, which posed a serious tripping hazard. The project took approximately two weeks and is now completed.

Director of facilities Tim Harder says the process to fix the stairs consisted of tearing off the old treads, removing all old adhesive and then finally putting the treads back in place. This process was done in sections which caused certain parts of the stairs to be closed at different times. It did disrupt the flow slightly, as caution tape was put in place to defer traffic to the other side of the stairwell.

There was no warning for the students when this project started. It took many students by surprise.

“It created traffic jams, I saw people almost walk through the tape,” East senior Kendyl Kuehl said. “I’m glad that there is no more overcrowding in the stairwell.”

The stairwell is now open with full flow.
