Head Start on College and Careers

Programs give high school students access to local college courses and business internships

Senior Peyton Janto can often be seen wearing business clothing at school because after four class periods at West Bend West High School he rushes to his internship at West Bend Mutual Insurance.

Janto is among the numerous WBHS students whose daily schedules differ from the traditional school day. Upperclassmen have the option to enroll in programs called Youth Options, Course Options and Co-op Youth Apprenticeships. These allow students to accept internships with local businesses or register for classes and programs not offered at the high school by traveling to locations such as the University of Wisconsin-Washington County and Moraine Park Technical College. The Radio Stars

West junior Andrew Haese and East senior Lydia Spettel can be heard on 101.3 WIBD talking about events happening in the community and the schools at 6:45 a.m. every Tuesday morning. Listeners can also find Haese daily on his own station, A100 Radio. Continue reading

New Music Teachers Start on a Good Note

The music program at West Bend High Schools is experiencing a new era.

Seth Matuszak and David Pecsi are the new faces of the music department. Matuszak teaches orchestra while Pecsi teaches choir, and as new teachers, they have been learning right along with the students as the year continues. Now that each has a concert or two under the belt, they are thinking about combining the skills of the choir and orchestra for some of the upcoming shows. Continue reading

Holmes Finds a Home

Fall play solves the case of the disappearing stage

Even a master sleuth needs a helping hand, and the Drama Club’s fall production of Sherlock Holmes found its Watson on a local hill.

With the high school auditorium out of commission due to renovations, the drama students had to find another place to host the production. Luckily, UW-Washington County came through—and offered the use of their Theatre on the Hill, free of charge. Continue reading
