West Bend’s Got Talent

After a two-year hiatus, the West Bend High Schools talent show is coming back.

Randy Reysen, a West social studies teacher, coordinated auditions and worked with the PBIS committee and a marketing class to bring the show back to West Bend, which is happening Friday night at 7 p.m. at the Silver Linings Arts Center. Continue reading

The Physics Egg Drop Is Toast

According to WBHS tradition, this time of year means milk cartons being dropped 50 feet from the roof of the auditorium.

This tradition was a project done for physics class. Students were required to construct a protective system in a milk carton that would keep an egg, which was placed inside, from breaking. They could use whatever materials they wanted, but many students opted to use packaging materials, such as Styrofoam peanuts. Other students got more creative, using jell-o, shampoo, or even tomato sauce.

But now, for the first time in over 30 years, the egg drop has been canceled. Continue reading

Keberle Will Stay in Wisconsin

East junior Lexi Keberle has verbally committed to play tennis at the University of Wisconsin.

After winning two state titles in her first two years of high school with a record of 61-0, Keberle committed to Wisconsin on Aug. 15. The verbal commitment is a promise between both Keberle and the university that a formal signing will occur during her senior year. Continue reading

Greymont Explains What WBHS Hopes to “Gain” from Standardized Tests

Office Beat Logo - ConleyFor many students, high school seems like continuous standardized testing.  But students have actually been assessed this way since elementary school.

“High school, for the first time, is really experiencing what elementary school has been doing for the past 20 years,” said Bill Greymont, WBHS principal.

The next set of Gains tests will be taken the week of April 6-10. Different subjects will be tested each day. Sophomores will take the Aspire test April 28-29; freshmen will take it April 30 and May 1.

Greymont addressed why students are taking multiple standardized tests each year in an early March interview with The Current. He explained the purpose of these tests so students can understand why they need to be taken, from the administration’s perspective. Continue reading
