Voting is the central way American citizens are active in politics. For adults, voting is a right that they occasionally exercise, but for some young people voting is something inaccessible but deeply desired.
Many area teenagers wishing to be involved in politics must find other avenues.
After school on Friday, a serious physical altercation involving multiple students took place outside of the West Bend East High School entrance, causing rumors to circulate on campus and in the community. The Current staff reporters Dakota Gunnare, Zach Church and Noah Mintie talked with Dave Uelmen, WBHS associate principal, to separate fact from fiction.
Rumor: There were a lot of serious injuries. Someone even broke their neck!
Fact: According to evidence acquired by the administration, the most serious injuries sustained by students were a concussion and a broken finger. “That was confirmed, I followed up with phone calls with the families,” Uelmen said. There is no evidence that any worse injuries took place.
Once known for his basketball prowess, Chris Herren now visits schools around the country, urging students to question how substance abuse affects those around them.
Many West Bend High Schools’ students who wanted to live at home and get a college education are now facing the choice to commute longer or attend online classes instead.
The human experience is rarely easy to digest. There isn’t a shield protecting us from discomfort.
