The Magic of Giving

Unlike a wizard, you don’t need a wand to save lives, just a needle.

The West Bend High Schools’ Student Council hosted a blood drive Wednesday with the BloodCenter of Wisconsin. It was held in the south gym, with students, teachers, and community members all coming in to donate blood.

The blood drive has been held in years past, but this year StuCo added some extra spirit by creating a Harry Potter theme. For Kelly Sorce, a family and consumer teacher and StuCo adviser, it was a dream come true. Continue reading

Tooting Our Own Horn: NEWSPA Awards 2016

WBHS journalists score 12 awards in statewide contest 

For the second year in a row, The West Bend Current received top recognition from the Northeastern Wisconsin Scholastic Press Association.

Judges for the 2016 NEWSPA contest again gave blue ribbon honors to The Current for a website not published as part of a journalism class, saying that many of the stories “reflect an original, enterprising approach to news gathering.”

The website’s student reporters also took home eleven individual awards. Continue reading

Too Many Turnovers


The class of 2017 has witnessed a high rate of administrative change

Starting in the fall, current WBHS juniors will meet their third head principal.

Principal Bill Greymont announced his resignation on Jan. 22, effective at the end of the school year. Greymont became head principal just before the start of the 2014-15 school year, replacing Jim Curler, who left for an administrative position in Slinger. The West Bend School District will now begin searching for another head principal. Continue reading

Hallway Etiquette: A Beginner’s Guide

It is seventh hour on a Friday afternoon. It has been a long week and patience is non-existent. All you want to do is get to your last class, and you are so close, but an obstacle is lying ahead. You turn onto the X hallway, the most crowded hallway, and the slowest of walkers is in front of you. You begin to worry that you are never going to make it to your class a mere three doors down the hall. After what seems like hours, you arrive to your class just before the bell rings wondering how hallway walking became such an issue.

That Doesn’t Look Good

Although the East vs. West homecoming game is still one day away, East football can already claim dominance in one category: injuries.

“I would cut it off if I had to,” said Jason Myrick, an East junior who broke his left pinky finger in a varsity football game against Slinger on Sept. 25. Myrick sustained a complete through and through fracture on his left pinky finger one week before the beloved homecoming game. Continue reading
