MFF Review: ‘Late Night with the Devil’ Brings Modern Analog Horror to the Big Screen

By Noah Mintie, Current Staff

Before I saw this movie, I had a virtual debate with some friends about whether this movie was the first instance of analog horror in a studio-produced feature film. They cited found-footage classics such as “The Blair Witch Project” as previous examples of the genre, claiming that analog horror has been around for ages. While both sides of this debate have merit, I do believe that “Late Night with the Devil,” directed by Cameron and Colin Cairnes, is the first instance of modern analog horror gracing the big screen. I have yet to see a film like it so closely resemble the modern horror masterworks being fashioned on platforms like YouTube.

Fighting the Rumors: The Truth About Friday’s Altercation at West Bend High Schools

After school on Friday, a serious physical altercation involving multiple students took place outside of the West Bend East High School entrance, causing rumors to circulate on campus and in the community. The Current staff reporters Dakota Gunnare, Zach Church and Noah Mintie talked with Dave Uelmen, WBHS associate principal, to separate fact from fiction.

Rumor: There were a lot of serious injuries. Someone even broke their neck!

Fact: According to evidence acquired by the administration, the most serious injuries sustained by students were a concussion and a broken finger. “That was confirmed, I followed up with phone calls with the families,” Uelmen said. There is no evidence that any worse injuries took place.

School’s Not the Same This Year

VIEWPOINT

By Noah Mintie, Current Staff

Even the iconic Nifty Nibble cookies are smaller this year.

For me, the West Bend High Schools have always been a place of opportunity and safety, which is why it feels discouraging to say that this year, most students feel resentment like a dead weight within their chests, a weight that drags down with every stride through the halls. But what has changed? Why does this dead weight hang?

The human experience is rarely easy to digest. There isn’t a shield protecting us from discomfort.

Great art makes you feel something. Great art doesn’t shy away from the unpleasant. Feeling uncomfortable is what forces introspection, understanding and deeper thought.

The third Ant-Man movie is a big disappointment for a small superhero.
