Turns out the hallway near the business department isn’t a construction zone.
Students walking past room 2427 at the West Bend High Schools may have recently noticed something unusual: a line of bright orange cones placed along the hallway wall. With the cones blocking off part of the walkway and signs of work happening on the wall, many students have been wondering the same thing. What exactly is going on?
After several days of curiosity and speculation, the answer is much simpler than students expected.
According to assistant principal Jared Kiesow, the school is currently undergoing a routine building maintenance project.
“The cones are in place as the wall in that area is being painted,” he said. “The cones are there to ensure the space remains clear and safe while the work is completed.”
Although the cones might make it look like a larger construction project is underway, the work is simply part of the school’s regular upkeep. Over time, busy hallways can show signs of wear, including scuff marks, chipped paint, or discoloration from backpacks and everyday movement from students between classes. Repainting the walls helps keep the building looking clean and well-maintained.
The cones serve an important purpose while the work is being completed. By marking off the area, they prevent students from accidentally brushing against wet paint or getting too close to the section of the wall being worked on.
West sophomore Brisa Benitez Bueno thought the cones signaled wall renovation or maybe a nearby plumbing issue. She’s ready for the work to be finished.
“Get those cones out of there quickly!,” Benitez Bueno said.
Students and staff should not expect ongoing work to interfere with daily school activities. Once the work is completed and the paint has fully dried, the cones will be removed, and the hallway will return to normal. Kiesow says the painting project is small and temporary.
“At this time, we do not anticipate any significant impact on students or classes,” he said.
